Jim turns 102

Dear friends,

Jim and the family are so grateful for all the lovely birthday wishes and celebrations that you have extended in celebration of his 102nd birthday, November 21.

Dad loved the wonderful surprise of a piper who serenaded him and his fellow residents with some familiar Scottish music. His Scottish heritage felt closer, and Dad sang some of the old familiar tunes as they were being played. It was a brilliant idea of granddaughter Amanda and her husband Scott.

Family celebrations with some of his 16 great grandchildren bouncing around him delights Dad.

Dad and the family are so grateful to so many of you who have remembered him and celebrated him with us. He continues to love seeing and hearing from his friends, and you have blessed him so beautifully. We love to see the continued passion in Dad’s heart to share the love of Jesus with others and to offer opportunities for others to have greater Biblical training. Writing is still at the core of his being, and each morning Dad sits at his desk to write new insights that the Lord has been teaching him, and to respond to emails. His wonderful friends listen to his latest ideas, bring him new interests, music and news from around the globe, and Dad continues to find ways to connect his friends together.

Dad is also pleased to announce the long-awaited publishing of a new book, co-authored with Michael Parker. A Vision for the Aging Christian: Preparing for Longer Life and the Tasks of Caregiving. This book is a follow-up to their first book together A Vision for the Aging Church and encourages aging Christians to finish well. Along the way they share experiences of aging challenges and the experience of God in their midst. It is published by Cascade Books (Wipf & Stock) October 2024.

What a privilege to be able to celebrate Dad and a joy for us to share this little bit of his life with you.

With thanks,

The Houston family

Many Happy Returns, Jim. You have less than four years to go to catch up to my Aunty Alice who was born in 1899 and "crossed the river" in 2005.

Dear Jim, Deb and I are very glad to see your smiling and laughing countenance in these pictures from your 102nd birthday celebration. You have always been for us a great encouragement in the way of faith, hope, and love; and now you remind us to keep watching for the ways of faith and joy as we all grow older in years. With you we commit ourselves to living faithfully in the days we are given, and we look forward to the new day of resurrection and fulfillment that our Lord had prepared for us. Strength and courage to you, our dear mentor in the faith. Craig and Deborah Gallaway
